My home system
components and listening tastes:
1. I don’t listen to LPs, or records. Just CDs, and maybe a tuner every now and then.
2. Transports: Museatex Melior CDD transport, Sony xa-20es transport.
3. CD player: Sony xa-20es used as a cd player.
4. DACs: Museatex Bidat (fully modded including black gat mods by John Wright), Museatex bitstream DAC.
5. Interconnects cables: Generic high quality coaxial (less than half meter) or 2 meter optical toslink by Stuart on audiogon.
6. Dac to amplifier interconnect: transparent plus RCA; canare interconnects RCA.
7. Power amplifiers: Hand built 45 SET,
Antique sound
8. Amplifier to speaker cable: transparent or transparent plus.
9. Speakers: Home built pair of bass reflex 3 ways with: Hsu Vtf sub crossed over to stephens trusonic 80Fr drivers at 90 HZ, which are in a large BR box, and are crossed over at 3200 cycles with a VIFA dome tweeter; klipschorns (unmodded) from 1978. The 45 amp drives the trusonics directly.
10. No preamplifiers, except home-built passive resistive preamplifiers with reasonable impedance match.
11. Power Management: AC wall outlet to PS Audio Ultimate High Current Outlet, to Panamax MAX 4300.
12. I like classical music (western and international), jazz, vocals during serious listening. I also listen to almost all types of music in my car (non-serious listening).
Note: The point of this page is not to brag about my systems. As you can see, most of my components are home-built anyway. It’s not important whether I have a good or bad system, what’s important is: do we have a system that can detect differences between the components being measured? Recall that the basis of reviews on this website is relative comparisons between components to bring out the strengths and weaknesses of each, with the same supporting system. If I can hear differences between the components, I will report them in the review. If not, then the supporting system is probably not sensitive enough, since most components will have at least very subtle differences.
